The campus of Penn State University in State College, Pennsylvania, where English faculty are demanding better wages.

Teaching faculty in the English department at Penn State University are demanding a living wage after a promised increase was scrapped by the administration, claiming "financial challenges," Wyatt Massey reports.

Salary data collected by the faculty, and shared with Spotlight PA, suggest lecturers earn about $35,000 annually, assistant teaching professors earn about $38,500, and associate teaching professors earn about $42,500.

The living wage for a single adult without children in State College is $37,545, according to The Massachusetts Institute of Technology. For a single adult with a child, the needed annual income jumps to $70,989.
